After reading the news, I think that there's a high probability that Ubuntu desktop might be shelved off. Canonical has not been profitable on the desktop side, as few PC/laptop manufacturers ship with Ubuntu pre-installed.
The second project which will probably be shelved will be Ubuntu on smartphones, if they cannot find enough partnership to make it profitable.
Canonical main source of revenue is the Cloud, and it likely that the new investors/shareholders will focus on that instead. Back in 2002-2004, RedHat abandoned RedHat Linux for the desktop.
