Hi,

Linux certification will indeed be a plus, especially LPIC as the exam standard is set quite high. 1 year of Linux experience depends on how you spent that year, as User or Administrator. As a user I'd say you are maybe advance at GUI tools. As an experienced admin you'd be expected to master several command line utilities. LPIC-1 will test your knowledge of the Linux architecture, package management, mastery of the command line etc.

Without proper preparation for the exam, even years of experience might not help you pass through. I'd recommend practical lab sessions alongwith some rigorous preps through the LPIC syllabus.

Cheers!

Hello Guys,
Further to Avinash question. How about the Linux Certification Institution Junior Part 1 and 2.

Does this help to find a job? It is easy to pass with 1 year experience in linux?
I saw the exam cost RS 4500.
 Thanks for sharing your experiences.

 Hello Avinash,
Linux System Administration is indeed cool as career, surely for someone passionate about IT. A quick look at myjob.mu will give a hint at the market demands & requirements. Unix/Linux skills are highly regarded in the tech industry. As for experience, well, it depends on how much you're diving into. I'll suggest not to wait for a job opportunity to explore Linux. Maybe you could start from right here, grasp the technicalities all while playing around & building cool toys.
Go through the posts on lugm.org, you'll surely find stuffs you can try play with.
