[lugm.org] Visibility and awareness of LUGM

as time goes, LUGS as ajay said are no more same.
Its been noticed worldwide.
at some time, we were all fanatics/lunatics (better word for nerds)
but now, for most of us in the LUGs, we are professionals with less time to
do the main goal of the LUGs: advocate for linux (and open source)

that said, sure, i agree, that LUGM is kinda dormant, and i do really think
that logan is right in thinking that we need new blood.

AND THAT THE PROBLEM OF MAURITIUS.
we dont attract people because all the jobs are winblow$ based-

We can count on one hand the companies who offer jobs for people with linux
knowledge
we can even name them
tuxlab
linkbynet
orinux
the company where selven works
the company where logan is forcing the use of linux

WORSE: when you are a linux guy, you dont get girlfriends since you dont use
smileys and other shits in msn :P

i can be wrong in the counting though, but i dont see offers.

In mauritius, the system taught at the UOM or even from primary school is to
always cover your back: so the saying in case of trouble - pas moi sa, li
sa.
So they always choose some system that offers support (redhat never comes to
mind of the "IT Director")

So for mauritius, its more the political power that we need, and none of us
have the right contacts.
I think that one way is to use india as example and show those bastards
decisions makers who are paid by our tax money.
and also maybe play their game....

sectarian group X (with tappeurs) is using linux, why not us :)

as for now, what i see, is that most of us in the linux world in mauritus,
well we are all self learners and dont really need teaching cos dont forget,
we all learnt linux by ourselfs with a little/big help from the veterans(not
in age though)
So meetings wont be that interresting for us. (even though one regarding
capturing films from myt was quite interresting - demo given from a guy who
was using tin cans as wifi antennas :) )
UNLESS we do manage to get a group of convinced newbies.
But how?

My nephew is at the IVTB in PL and learning IT: he already hacked the laptop
of his teacher and also cleaned the computer lab of viruses.
and he does not even know bash, he only uses ubuntu.
all this to say, that its all political.
As long as as we dont get in that stratum, we wont go further... (dunno if
the word stratum is the right one)

Regarding forum, i agree totally with ajay, but we will need moderation and
with the net becoming real time, its tough.
I think this is the reluctance of aadil.

Anyway, as conclusion, we are all right and we are all wrong cos things have
change.
and thus we need to change, thus I think we will need to
1. see how other LUGs managed the change
2. see if we can adapt these changes to mauritian realities and its
s******** governing bodies
3. who has time (no life?)
