Subject: [lugm.org] The LUGM website is Live
Hi,

The new website is Live on http://lugm.org

Stephane has just setup the appropriate DNS records on my requests.

Stephane Lee, is still hosting the mailing list. I have updated the
mailing page. The bad news is that Stephane can't locate the mailing
list archives. Those are believed to be lost. If you have old emails
from the mailing list, please don't delete them as we might need as
much emails as we can to rebuild a mailing list archive.

TuxLab is now providing hosting services on its server in Canada.
Being the Systems Engineer for TuxLab, I have root access on the
server and experimenting with new web-based toys for the LUGM is now
very easy. Avinash and I currently have admin access on Wordpress.
Avinash will be delegating rights to other users because he knows
wordpress better than I do.

If you have questions, ask away. Keep your credit card handy for
faster processing of your questions.

Regards
Ajay

Hello altogether,

Nice shot.
Too increase load performance please activate mod_deflate on Apache.
This allows to compress the content through an output filter. More
details can be read at

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_deflate.html
Activation can be done using

$ a2enmod deflate
$ /etc/init.d/apache2 force-reload

Looking forward to more content and progress on the site.
Kind regards, JoKi

Ah yes thanks for reminding me I forgot to enable mod_deflate while
building the vhost.

It is now enabled.

<ifModule mod_deflate.c>
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain
text/xml text/javascript application/x-javascript text/xml text/css
BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html
BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4\.0[678] no-gzip
BrowserMatch \bMSI[E] !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html
Header append Vary User-Agent env=!dont-vary

DeflateCompressionLevel 9

DeflateFilterNote ratio
DeflateFilterNote Input instream
DeflateFilterNote Output outstream
</IfModule>

Hello Ajay,

I think I have all the mailing list emails dating from 2000. I can
provide them in mailbox format.

Cheers,
Arvind

Hello,

That's been a really good news! Cheers to LUGM!!
And congrats to those who made the website up and running in this short
amount of time.
As we can see, there are people who are serious and who're working :P

Thanks Ajay for hosting facilities, Avinash for making the thing (blog)
work and Dominique (and Avinash) for your interesting articles :)

Cheers,
Dilraj

Hmm I'm thinking of making binary patterns out of smoke signals, is that
ok with you? :P
Hehe, no seriously, I have a little over 7200 emails in a ~40MiB file.
It takes up ~6MiB in a bz2 archive. I can store in on my ftp account or
send it to you by mail. Let me know which one you prefer.

Thanks Dilraj. Don't forget to regularly contribute. Thanks to Dominique
for
his excellent articles :-)

One important thing we need to settle on: categories vs tags. In my opinion
(and I may be wrong), I think that we should use only a few categories (if
at all...) For the time being, we have:
* Article = for all articles on Linux and OSS that we write

* Meeting = anything related to meetings (announcements, slides, etc.)

* Tip = quick (technical) tips & tricks

I think this is adequate but we may of course add new ones when needed.
Notice that categories all start with a capital letter.

Tags on the other hand should be plentiful and should normally start with a
small letter for consistency.

Opinion?

Please send to my gmail when you can spare a few minutes. Thank you
very much for saving part of our history.

As a side note, are you in Mauritius currently? If yes, whats your
excuse for not coming at meetings :-)

Unfortunately, I'm in England right now and I won't be back until early
2011 :-(

I watched it a bit late. Verdict: awesome !

I didn't move a single bit during the movie ! All the others
went to sleep(), I don't know why ^^

Kirk was cool! Reminds me a bit of Luke Skywalker in Episode IV.

Btw, who's yr favourite ST character ?

Jabba the Hutt belongs to the Star Wars universe.

I didn't know they did a crossover with Star Trek :-)
