Nah, you're right. Android is open source software and includes the Linux
kernel!

As far as I remember, when I installed Cyanogen on my Nexus One, at one
point I had the option of resizing partitions using ClockworkMod ROM
Manager (http://www.clockworkmod.com/). Did you try that?
