Hello,
Kismet is just an auditing tool, you can't use it to protect your system(unless 
you try to crack your own system to see whether it's secure enough)
If you wish to do so, you have to use appropriate encryption & key for your 
wireless connection.
You should also have a look at the aircrack suite http://www.aircrack-ng.org/ 
which is packed with really interesting tools :P
