Exactly.

The Linux kernel, like all software, contains bugs. But, for many use
cases, it's good enough (for Google, Facebook, etc.) so, most probably, for
us.

Similarly, concerning the default config of the Ubuntu firewall, it's good
enough for many of us. Those being actively hacked by the NSA, China or
Anonymous might find it a bit porous though...

It's all a matter of perspective, the kind of threats you are facing and
the kind of resources your "enemies" have.
