#sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0

If it is set to 0, that box wont act as a router.
First, set that to 1 using

#sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward=1

You're advised to set this in /etc/sysctl.conf so it works across reboots.
As far as firewalling is concerned, I used shorewall with lots of success
between years 2002 to 2006.

Also move DHCP services from your Orange router to your Gentoo box or allow
the appropriate rules through.
