Please also bear in mind that 90% of the members have to
work on Saturdays (and that includes parenting). Finding time
to meet to meet at 10 AM on Saturday is not something most
senior members can do, even for a casual chat among linux
geeks.

Personally, I'm still happy with the smaller group that get
together regularly: Shaan,Josh,Selven, Yan (nomadic Jedi Master),
and I don't mind doing a tech presentation in front of 2-3 ppl :-D.

Time flies, priorities change. It's life.

after each meeting we do normally have lunch together (lotus).

But i do beleive that lately everyone were busy either with work or preparation of exams and of course elections (which is one of the favorite sports for mauritians)

I've never really had the time to be active in LUGM, but two other LUGs

I've been part of have some interesting ways of getting together (in

addition to technical presentations). Perhaps something similar might be

interesting here too..

ILUG the Irish LUG in Dublin have an unwritten custom where any member at

any time can announce a POTD (Pint Of The Day) which specifies a pub and a

date/time and is an open invitation to all other members to join in for

beer.

CLUG the Cape LUG in Cape Town South Africa also have an un-official

tradition that following the monthly presentations at the official

meetings

(which happen on a Tuesday evening, around 6:00pm), most people attending

the meeting go out for dinner after. Usually for pizza. Although it's not

that often that a presentation does not happen, when this is the case

mostly the pizza still does happen..

So the suggestion is that if a) There are a few people that are interested

to get together, but b) there is not enough to make a full technical

presentation worthwhile, then why not just meet for a snack or a beverage?

If the meet-up is in a resto or outdoors or something, there is no need

for

a venue, and if it's mostly social there is no need for presentation

preparations.

I'd think this could be in addition to technical presentations though. It

shouldn't replace them.

Anyway, just a thought..
